May 8, 2010 Program

Postby admin » Mon May 03, 2010 5:13 am

On this broadcast we will be talking about the Twelve Steps of AA. We will be talking about why they are helpful and even critical for true recovery, We will be talking about how many who may have been set free from an addiction are living the life of a dry drunk because they have not applied the principles found in the Twelve Steps. We will also share how the Twelve Steps are centered around Biblical principles.

There are those who are adamantly for the Twelve Steps and there are those who are adamantly opposed to the Twelve Steps. Should be an interesting discussion if we have people calling into the show.

Here are the Twelve Steps of AA:
1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Christian Twelve Steps

Postby admin » Mon May 03, 2010 5:19 am

Here is the Twelve Steps adapted in a Christian format.

Christian Twelve Steps
Step 1 - We admitted that we had become powerless over alcohol or the substance we had abused (alcoholic or the substance abuser) and that our lives were unmanageable.

Step 2 - Came to believe that through Jesus Christ we could be restored to right relationship with God the Father, and subsequent sanity and stability in our lives.

Step 3 - Made the decision to turn from the things of the past and invite jesus to be Lord and manager of our lives.

Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Step 5 - Admitted to ourselves, and another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character - (repented - became willing to change)

Step 7 - Humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings and to forgive us believing and receiving.

Step 8 - Make a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

Step 9 - Made direct amends to such people, wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Step 10 - Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Step 11 - Sought through prayer and meditation on God's word to increase our fellowship with Him, praying continually for the knowledge of His will for us and the power of His might to accomplish it.

Step 12 - Having been spiritually restored and set free from "the sin which does so easily beset us", we attempt to share this freedom and the One who has freed us with those who still suffer, and practice the Lord's principles in all our affairs.

We were really hoping to have callers tonight, but no one called in. The show would be much more interesting with callers.
Because of no callers we were able to cover Steps 1 through Step 7.

We tried to reach out to both the Chrisian and non-Christian in regards to the steps, hoping that both can learn helpful principles from the steps.

On Sunday, May 9 we had someone come to Victory Life Center who had heard the show on Saturday. He said he pulled off the road when he heard the show. It was just wanted he needed. He had been very depressed and the show gave him hope. We have meet with this person a couple of times since the show.
It is nice to know we are touching someone's life.
